Inserts are used inside of pocket diapers, or any diaper with a pocket(some fitteds have pockets). They are usually made of either microfiber, bamboo, hemp, or cotton.

Doublers are used inside of a diaper(not typically inside of a pocket diaper since they have pockets for inserts) if extra absorbency is needed. Bamboo, hemp, and cotton can all be used as doublers. Microfiber is NOT to be used against the skin, as it could cause irritation and rash.
